Challenge

The online pet supply industry is notorious for low margin products and doesn’t see the same returns as its in-store counterpart. Couple that with a competitive online space dominated by some well-known pet stores, our challenge was to make sure that this campaign was profitable. It was clear, however, that search marketing was going to play a crucial role in driving more in-store outcomes from the initial online searches of prospective customers.

Solution

With two physical store locations and a third on the horizon, we needed to maximise their visibility within localised search results. The plan was to target high-volume, broad and competitive keywords which, in turn, would generate listings for users in the suburbs where Habitat Pets had a physical location. These terms also helped us generate new online customers at the research phase of their journey and introduced Habitat as a new brand. We also massively grew Habitat’s product category & brand category traffic by adding optimised copy throughout the site, with link building further cementing rankings near the top of page 1 across targeted keywords.

Result

In the first 12 months of the campaign, overall keyword visibility tripled with top 3 keywords growing by 400% and page 1 rankings growing 8-fold. This led to an increase in organic search traffic and a ROAS in the region of $1:$10. Through knowing that consistent revenue would be acquired through SEO, this enabled the client to open a third physical store location and benefit from the rankability for new products and brands as their website inventory grew.
